This seasoning creates natural, easy-release properties, and it improves the more you cook. Because seasoning can be maintained and refreshed, cast iron cookware is designed for long-term use. Chemical non-stick coatings cannot be repaired, which can limit lifespan. For the first few uses, apply a little extra oil, butter, or shortening until the seasoning is well established.
