- The traditional taiyaki filling is azuki paste (anko) - made from sweetened red beans. You can make it yourself or get it from any Japanese/Korean store. We have also added a simple recipe for making anko.
- However, you can use any imaginable filling- Nutella, almond/peanut butter, chocolate, jam, custard, sweet potato, cream cheese, tuna, smoked salmon, cheese and pesto… The options are endless!
Taiyaki Tips & Tricks
- Your first set of taiyaki will always be the worst - like with pancakes. But keep experimenting and soon you’ll make the perfect taiyaki!
- You can use any waffle or pancake mix and your taiyaki will turn out great.
- We suggest experimenting with different batters and fillings to find your favorite style of taiyaki.
Taiyaki Pan Use and Care
- Before first use, wash the pan carefully with warm water and mild soap. Dry thoroughly.
- The pan is not dishwasher safe, but as it’s non-stick, it’s super easy to hand wash.
- Use a non-abrasive cleaning pad or sponge when washing the pan. Never use a knife or metal tools to scrape the base as it may cause scratches and damage that will affect the following uses.
